Boost gets cleared after using a non-attack spell.

By GinjaaNinjaa#7459 May 12, 2015, 05:54:39
If I do something like use a pyro-boost then self-buff kitty using her own spell the pyro boost gets cleared. So instead I must buff kitty first "then" use the boost.

While technically this may not be a bug since the boost is suppose to apply to the next spell cast, it feels out of place to the spirit of the game. We all know I don't want to apply the boost to her ardent-mutiation because for one it does no damage as a spell and two it is not a pyro spell. But the game logic appears to be too ridged to know the difference, that or it's a bug.

I have to disagree with you. If you were to activate that buff during tournament play, and then went to and used the buff spell, instead of the attack, I wouldn't allow the bonus of the buff, from the reward, to "carry" through. The wording of the rewards and spells are specific.

I understand the "spirit of the game" concept you mean, and if we were just playing a friendly game, I'd let it go through, I'd berate you for doing it wrong, but I'd let it go through, but not during an official match, which is why the online game shouldn't have to allow that either.

Timing is something that is going to become important in this game, I feel, with abilities and attacks from those existing, and those yet seen.

Your response does not surprise me at all. But like I said it does not feel in the spirit of the game. And if you need to win on a technicality then you didn't win at all. Sorry.

Not sure I understand the problem. Many of the spells have the effect that they effect the next spell whatever it is. If you start making exceptions, for whatever reasons, the rules are going to get even more out of hand. The length of rules in the latest addition ( not yet available in English I admit) is getting mind boggling.

The complexity of the game is going up with each new release from my perspective. I know it has turned off several potential players I showed the game to, although I tend to think that if you like the figures you will probably like the game to some degree.

Not asking for exceptions. Felt like a bug. Anyone and everyone knows that the a boost only works with correct spell type so why would I burn it on a non-attack spell. If I was playing the real board game it really would not matter what order I announce it in (unless you are playing Nick apparently) because as players we all know what the intention is.

But online the code is the code and it doesn't really have a way to be logical about this scenario. Like I said "spirit of the game" still felt like a bug. Perhaps its not, but Ankama isn't exactly hard and fast on the rules given they have omitted the core starting rules so this isn't really out of the question.

I agree with Nick. I see where you're coming from, but the easiest way to maintain the code for the online game is to keep it where it's at. If we were to program Fire boost to give +2 on the next spell that deals Fire damage, there would have to be a number of exceptions and changes to the code.

Fair enough. I certainly understand such a change being prohibitive work-wise. But that would be the only reason not to do it imo.
