The 2018 World Championship of Krosmaster Arena will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of October at the Essen SPIEL festival. Find all the important information for qualified players over here! EDIT: new info added on October 10th.

Access

The 2018 World Championship will be held on Saturday October 27th from 10 AM to 6 PM, and on Sunday October 28th from 10 AM onwards (until the new champion is crowned!).

The tournament will take place in the Mailand Hall; you can find it on this convention map. The easiest way to access it is by entering through the West entrance and taking the escalator on the Hall 3 foyer until the first floor. The path to the Mailand hall will be marked from there.

Qualified players will receive a voucher for ticket to the festival, in order to access the tournament.
EDIT on 16/10: In order to get this voucher, they will have to head to the West entrance and meet [Lescart] there, which will give them before the tournament begins. It is essential that the contestants meet him there at the earliest time possible. Once the players get the vouchers, they will have to queue for one of the entrance chasiers to exchange these vouchers for an entry pass. If you're at the convention on Friday, please come at the Ankama Boardgames booth (hall 2, booth 2-B116) where [Lescart] will be present intermittantly, to get your vouchers in advance. Thanks in advance!

Saturday

We await for the players to come starting at 10:00 AM for registration at the tournament.

This first day of the championship will be made of 6 Swiss rounds between the qualified players. A lunch break will also take place between those rounds.

At the end of the day, the Top 8 players will be qualified for the second day!

Sunday

Tournament will resume at 10:00 AM.

At this stage, the championship becomes a double-elimination bracket until the end; players must lose twice (once in winner bracket, once in loser bracket) to be completely eliminated from the tournament.

The last few games of the championship (starting around 2 PM) will take place directly on the Ankama Boardgames space in Hall 2, booth 2B116, for a final under the spotlights!

Map and special rules

The championship will use the Season format, using characters from season 2 to season 5. The Boss and Ban lists apply as usual, you will find up to date tournament rules here. Players will keep the same team selection from the beginning to the end of the tournament.

EDIT on 09/19: the Boss and Ban list have been updated. The new lists are available here, make sure to read them carefully before the tournament.

This event will use a special map. You will find it below, in the orientation that it will use for the whole tournament.

(You can find a more schematic version of the map here .)

The Iop God has decided to create an arena that fits his godly desires!
Characters in the center arena will certainly have the advantage over the cowards who hide in the outer zone…

As you can see, there are two distinct zones on the map: the arena (dark cells, blue on the schematic map) and the outer zone (clear cells, green on the schematic map). This map has the following special rules:

  1. At the beginning of the game, players can deploy their characters on any deployment cell on their side of the map; they aren’t limited to the first 2 lines as it’s usually the case.
  2. The dark cells (center) cannot be targeted by spells cast from a character on a clear cell (outer zone), neither as primary nor secondary target.
  3. A character which moves during their turn from the clear zone to the dark zone cannot move out of the dark zone until the end of turn.
  4. A character cannot be moved from the clear zone to the dark zone outside of their own turn.

This is an arena for the brave! Nobody will force you to enter the central arena, but if you do it on your own, you will to back up this bravado (and force the respect of the more “prudent” characters that kept on the outside…).

Covering your fees

You probably remember that some of the prizes to win in National Championships and QTs were « travel vouchers », to help you get to Essen. Now that the World Championship is at our door, we will obviously honor these promises!

To use your vouchers, you must send us the proof of your travel and/or hotel expenses (tickets, etc.), as well as your banking information, by e-mail to phdupont(at)ankama(dot)com. Once the Championship is over, Ankama will reimburse your expenses, up to the amount of travel vouchers you have earned during previous tournaments.

The prizes

Players competing in the World Championship can win the following prizes, depending on their final rankings:

  • All contestants: 1 World Championship's map, 1 t-shirt of the event, 1 participation trophy.
  • Top 24: 1 display (12 blindboxes) of "The Bortherhood of the Forgotten" (in English).
  • Top 16: 1 tournament kit for the new season, containing 5 summons and 1 promo miniature.
  • 3rd place: 1 individual trophy for third place and a 300€ cahsprize.
  • 2nd place: 1 individual trophy for second place and a 600€ cashprize.
  • World Champion: 1 individual trophy for the World Champion and a 1100€ cash prize.

Additional details will be added to this news as soon as they will be available. Stay tuned, and enjoy your training!

If a character starts their turn in the blue zone, can they move into the green?

from the way the rule is phrased, yes they can No one is permanently stuck in the blue zone, you just can't go Green->Blue->Green in the same turn

Guys, please update the tournament rules:

"“Season” Format : Only Season 2, 3 and Cemetery pack figurine are allowed."

I highly doubt this is up to date, but it is on the latest revision.

The current seasonal format allows all seasons except season 1. As for season 6, even if it is released before worlds, I can't see it being allowed for that specific tournament.
Furthermore, there's an upcoming revision of the boss and ban lists. There was a sneak peek on facebook today (the official download links on the forums will most likely be updated in the coming days). Here are the chages.New entries in the boss list (previous ones unchanged) : Malee Buhrum, Khan Karkass, Phaeris, KivinNew entries in the ban list (previous ones unchanged) : Ghett Outadier, Gein, Doo Rex, Katar, Kitty Rage Basically, the season 2 profiles that are most impactful on the meta have been either bosslisted or banned

A little clarification for rules #3 and #4 :
"their turn" means the character's activation phase, not the whole turn of their controller.

I confirm this interpretation.

A character which entered inside the blue zone during their turn can be pulled out from the blue zone by another allied character playing later in the Timeline.

Sorry for the delay.
