World Championship 2016 and QT rules change

By [Dewit] - ANKAMA - May 02, 2016, 17:00:00
Announcements
We have a whole lot of information for you! Everything you need to know about Krosmaster’s World Championship 2016, and changes to the QT season and international rankings. Here we go!

Things are moving in the world of organized play! We have two important topics to discuss today, so let’s not beat around the bush and dive straight into it!

World Championship 2016: additional info

We recently announced the date and place of Krosmaster’s next World Championship. We are now able to provide you with additional information on this tournament made for champions.

First of all, let us remind you that the Championship will be held at Sevilla (Spain) on July 16th, 2016.

Now, we can tell you the event’s exact location: it will be at the Hotel NH Sevilla Plaza de Armas. You can find everything about this hotel and its location by following this link.

Next item on the list: a map! As it is now traditional, we will use a new map for the Championship. Although you might have seen it before if you’ve played the online game… This year, we will use Moon Island’s asymmetrical map, which you can find below:

Finally, the prizing! Of course, our dearest champions will not come home empty-handed… By going to the tournament, they will able to win the following:

  • For every contestant: a playable map of the event, a commemorative t-shirt, and two Season 4 blind booster display (which will be send to the players as soon as the product is available in their own language).

  • TOP 8: one Cardboard Tube Samurai figurine, one Nemesis Samurai figurine, and one Missiz Freezz resin statuette.

  • TOP 4: one XXL figurine of the player's choice (if still in stock).

  • World Champion: a champion trophy, and the opportunity to design a Krosmaster’s profile for a future release.

(Updated on May 6th)

Tournament Rules

The tournament will use the current rules for Krosmaster Arena (version 2.4). These rules include two changes from Krosmaster Arena 2.0: buying a GG costs 12 kamas instead of 10, and the Tension roll can be rerolled by forfeiting one die.

The current ban and Boss list will apply, with one extra change: characters coming from Krosmaster Arena 2.0 will be banned for this tournament.

Please note that a revision of the Boss/ban list may happen before the Championship; we’re keeping a close eye on Theo and Poochan right now…

The tournament will proceed as follow:

  • Players will first play 4 Swiss rounds

  • At the end of those rounds, the Top 8 players will play a double elimination bracket.

  • Starting with the semi-finals (Top 4), players losing their match will go to the loser bracket and continue the tournament from there.

  • The final will be played between the winner bracket finalist and the loser bracket finalist.

QT and international rankings modification

In February, we have announced our new ladder system, which will be used as qualification for next year’s World Championship. Several QT have already been played, and more are scheduled in the next few months.

We have received a lot of community feedback on this system, and we listened to you. In order to make the competition fairer and more accessible to all, we have decided to modify the following points of the rules.

There’s no longer a required minimum of players needed to make a QT “official”. As a result, players will now get points on the international ladder related to the numbers of players attending the QT. Here’s how it will work:

  • Tournament with less than 16 players

    • 1st place: 8 points

    • 2nd place: 5 points

    • 3rd and 4th place: 3 points

    • All other contestants: 1 point

  • Tournament with 16 to 31 players
    • 1st place: 12 points

    • 2nd place: 6 points

    • 3rd and 4th place: 4 points

    • From 5th to 8th place: 2 points

    • All other contestants: 1 point

  • Tournament with 32 to 42 players
    • 1st place: 15 points

    • 2nd place: 8 points

    • 3rd and 4th place: 5 points

    • From 5th to 8th place: 2 points

    • All other contestants: 1 point

  • Tournament with 43 to 64 players
    • 1st place: 18 points

    • 2nd place: 10 points

    • 3rd and 4th place: 6 points

    • From 5th to 8th place: 4 points

    • From 9th to 16th place: 2 points

    • All other contestants: 1 point

  • Tournament with 64 players or more
    • 1st place: 21 points

    • 2nd place: 12 points

    • 3rd and 4th place: 8 points

    • From 5th to 8th place: 5 points

    • From 9th to 16th place: 3 points

    • From 17th to 32nd place: 2 points

    • All other contestants: 1 point

The number of points given during National Championships won’t change. Those changes are retro-active, and we will update the current ladder shortly to reflect this.

Finally, in order to get a better spread on their (large) territory, the US competitive scene will get 5 additional QT, for a total of 10 QT and a National Championship.

Thank you for your attention, and don’t hesitate to give us your feedback on this news!

Additionally, I saw on the other page that the 'map' that was showing didn't have any kama, footprints, demonic reward spots, or anything.

And even more: Will Krosmaster 2.0 characters (Bakara, Julith, ect) be allowed at the World Championship?

Are you certain that Coa Gulary is the XXL you intend to give as a prize? I'm not sure how you can claim that they're unavailable to retail when they can be bought (at a significant discount I might add) from japanime *right now*.

Yeah, I can currently buy 6 of them for around the round trip costs for German players....

What I would say is the prize list is pretty shitty, tbh. You get two Season 4 display boxes, which would probably cost $200 at most. Then a shirt that probably won't fit me unless I do some hardcore cardio, a map which is something I could print out myself, the Samurai figures that I already have because they were released over here first, and an XXL figure that I could buy for $50....
So I should spend the $2000+ it takes in travel expenses for around $300 worth of stuff I could get here, not including a trophy that only one person would get out of all the participants.

At least do a new XXL figure for the top 4.... Or something more to keep the players interested....

Thank you for making those changes to the QT system. It is by far, more reasonable I think. It rewards the larger populations in Europe, while not leaving North America out. The world championship prizes are a little light though. Maybe the competitors deserve a little more "exclusive stuff" like all red based S4 characters.

Are you going to post a corrected version of this map, showing starting zones and kama locations? Additionally, what characters will be allowed/not allowed for worlds?

The online version of this map is hugely disbalanced: if players setup along the short edges, second player has no means of reaching the shop on turn 1 except with pushes or a 4 MP Krosmaster. The first player can safely move into position on turn 1 (because the map is very long) and then on turn 2 shop and attack.
Hope you've moved starting points, because otherwise low initiative teams will be at a constant disadvantage.

Usually in the World & National Championships the deployment is the standard and I think in this case the deployment will along the long side, won't it?

Hello everyone!

We're back with some more news concerning the world championship. We have updated the news on top, but here's a quick summary of the changes.

Map

We have updated the map picture to show kamas and deployment spaces. The map is now complete.

Prizes

We have slightly updated the prizes The changes are underlined.

  • TOP 4: one XXL figurine of the player’s choice (if still in stock).
  • World Champion: a champion trophy, and the opportunity to design a Krosmaster’s profile for a future release.

Tournament Rules

The tournament will use Krosmaster Arena current rules (1.0), with the following change: buying a GG will cost 12 kamas instead of 10.
The current ban and Boss list will apply, with one extra change: characters coming from Krosmaster Arena 2.0 will be banned for this tournament.

Please note that a revision of the Boss/ban list may happen before the Championship; we’re keeping a close eye on Theo and Poochan right now…

We hope this answers your questions about the tournament.

Thanks Dewit for the update of the map.

I was counting that the new 2.0 rules and models would be used. We all know the rules and models for quite a long time. You could give each of the attendants a Krosmaster 2.0 box and that would suffice the problem for the ones that didn't have it. And more prizes for them tongue

About Ban/Boss list. I think poochan is a figurine widely used now because in the game there is a lack of options for good "movers" and because it combines wonderfully with phaeris. Most of the teams need at least one model that help you in placement, and Luk Ylook, Theo and Ghett are now bosses. We don't need more "movers" made boss we need more options. Khan, for example will be a great replacement.
And are you pondering banning my poor theo? And why not Merkator that has been hated quite more and for a longer time. laugh

Theo and Merkator are already bosses. If they are considering Theo, that would suggest that they are either considering removing Theo's boss status or else they are considering making another character a boss due to synergies with the Eliatrope. Similarly, Poochan can't throw bosses. It is therefore possible they'll bossify another figure instead because being thrown by Poochan is really good.

That said, Poochan is pretty easily the best non-boss mover right now. It wouldn't surprise me terribly if she was put on the boss list.

What you should be watching closely is the Captain + Julith nonsense. The shit is fuking broken. 6 god-damn movement not blocked by obstacles, with an extra ap to buy right before her 6 dmg attack? Seriously? Thank god you guys aren't screwing up the worlds tournament with 1.0 rewards and Julith the way you are with the online scene.

I have a question about the Worlds Swiss Format. Is there any Modification such that people from the same country are less likely to get paired against each other.
Something like the first round is against someone who is not from you country. Or even better something like, if there is someone with the same score as you and you have not played against him you definitly are not playing someone from your country if it is possible to be achieved for all pairings.

It would be nice for the first round, since that would be easy to do.

As far as I'm aware, there's no such system in place. Our tournament program is not made to handle exceptions like this.

If you are using AWER, it's very easy to create different groups for at least the first round. I don't see why this would be a problem.

It's built in to be able to modify your pairings if you choose. Especially in the first round. I just started using AWER and it was pretty intuitive.
